Francis Jordan
Catholic School
Music Programme
Francis Jordan offers a unique and highly regarded music program. Francis Jordan Catholic School is well known throughout the community for its Music programme which features instrumental music (both individual and ensembles), two concert bands, a recorder group, and choirs. Liturgical movement and dance groups complete the performing arts offerings at the school.
The school is involved in the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival each year and has won several awards in recent years.
We offer the opportunity to have music lessons at school. The instruments you can learn are:
- Woodwind – Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone
- Brass – Trumpet, Trombone
- Drums
- Guitar
We have 4 tutors that teach the above instruments and weekly lessons run from 12.00pm up until 3.30pm if needed.
Our Children in Year 3 join the music programme and learn the Fife. The Fife is an instrument that looks like a recorder but is held and played like a flute. It is a great stepping-stone to learning Woodwind and Brass instruments.
We also have a Senior and Junior Band. Our Senior Band rehearse Thursday afternoons and consists of our year 5–6 Students. Our Junior Band consists of our year 4 students, and they begin rehearsals in Term 2 and Term 3 on Thursday mornings and then they can join our Senior Band in Term 4.
Francis Jordan Catholic School also has two Music Bursaries that are offered each year for students in Years 4 – 6. They provide free music tuition and instrument hire for 12 months and is offered to students who have been in the music programme in Year 3 -6.
